Issue #29: Return to Return to Monkey Island, Danke Schön
Return to Monkey Island hits “current” generation consoles and adds another language to its arsenal.
The Honorable CEO Welcomes You
Just in time for my triumphant return to writing editorials for you, dear readers, it’s been announced that Return to Monkey Island is hitting PlayStation and Xbox. I am not delighted that my Xbox Series X has experienced whatever we call an RROD nowadays and been sent off for repair, but I have a PS5 on standby to pick up the slack. (Where did you think all your Patreon contributions go?!)
I wanted the old-fashioned point-and-click interaction for my first play through ReMI, but now that I’ve cooled down from the experience, I think it’ll be wonderful to go through a second time, but this time on the big TV, sound system, etc. Really let that art and music strut its stuff.
I would ideally like to get through the other Monkey Island replays I was working on, but I’ve been tempted away by the likes of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and also a week of crippling illness.
Will you be buying a second copy of Return to Monkey Island next week, or are you holding out for a physical edition? Apparently, our newsletters have comments now… so leave a comment below!
Return to Monkey Island Goes German, Mostly Because of Mojo (Says Mojo)
Look, OK, maybe not exactly, but we’re happy to see that Mojo contributor Marius was part of the German translation process.
Make sure to check out our interviews with Ron and Dave, and Rex Crowle, both co-authored by Marius.
Is this another sign ReMI is selling well? Possibly? Probably? Seeing The Verge is featuring it as a banner example of the year’s best games, we can assume things must be going fairly OK. I had expected to see average reviews and tepid sales, if only because those are marketplace realities these days—I am very happy to have been proven wrong. Now, bring on the collector’s editions.
Maniac Monkey Island
A small ReMI Part III easter egg references the first SCUMM game: Maniac Mansion. Have a look unless you want to remain unspoiled.
Curse Turns Twenty-Five
That’s right: The Curse of Monkey Island is just a couple of months younger than Mojo. That doesn’t make us feel old at all. 😒 Here’s a cutscene from the game—still holds up!
Grim Turns Twenty-Four
Coming up the rear: Grim Fandango turned twenty-four on Halloween. Witness the OG trailer! (And don’t forget: The Limited Run orders are open.)
Last Week’s Mojole Results
28 Oct: “close” – A not quite as famous verb, but pretty famous either way.
29 Oct: “walk#” – Shouldn't have been an interface verb. I mean, come on. Just point and click and call it good.
30 Oct: “mire#” – ... Island. Will the adventure continue?
31 Oct: “root#” – ... beer. Famously consumed by Marius before the Devolver Showcase disappointment extravaganza
01 Nov: “road#” – Sam and Max hit it.
02 Nov: “room#” – You know and love them from SCUMM.
03 Nov: “love#” – ... bombs: A problematic LeChuck's Revenge inventory item. Also, Mojo loves you.
Play Mojole, the game that sweeps the nation!
