Issue #53: In Service of Fan Service
“Making cool things makes you a cool person.” –Benjamin Franklin, probably.
So, last week was not awesome, and settling into apathy can look dangerously tempting to many of us. In that sense, now is as good of time as any to turn to the enemy of lethargy: creativity. Those putting cool things into the world are often the same people who are capable of showing empathy. Empathy fosters creativity fosters empathy, and so forth: If the world ever has been in need of cool stuff – and empathy – now is the time. A quirky example of this comes from the small Italian outfit BeanAdventureAgency:
The Booze of Monkey Island
Fans of The SCUMM Bar will have have noticed quite the hubbub around the recently released Monkey Island fan game, one I’m sure you’ve already downloaded and played. If you haven’t had the time, though, look no further than our no-commentary walkthrough to see what The Booze of Monkey Island is all about:
Apropos of walkthroughs – we also uploaded hint-style walkthrough of the game, courtesy of our Chief Helpline Coordinator, Huz. Use at your own will, as you’ll skip past tons of dialogue if you follow it slavishly.
Fans of the game’s music – composed and reimagined by one AndywinXp – can download it from the Bar’s MP3 section, or if YouTube is more your thing, listen right here.
The Booze of Monkey Island – a good reminder that creative stuff can be really cool.
Welcome to the Social
The grand migration from Twitter hit overdrive last week, and as far as the grander Mojoverse goes, the platform of choice was – perhaps not surprisingly – Bluesky. Dave Grossman already had an active presence there, and recently, Schafer, a host of Double Finers, Adventure Game Hotspot, etc., doubled down on the butterfly site. LucasArts Posters himself, Laserschwert, is literally figuratively begging for followers.
Migrating to a new network can be a pain, but your friends here at Mojo have made life a bit easier for you. Follow our starter pack, and you’ll quickly add a whole bunch of LucasArts+ accounts.
Skunkape, too, has hit the ‘sky hard, currently posting a giant Sam & Max-centered trivia thread. Which brings us to…
Trivia of the Week!
Did you know Clementine appeared in the remastered “Night of the Raving Dead”? I did not, but you can witness it in this video.
Meanwhile, Grossman has expressed admiration for Jason’s dedication to framing his Maniac Mansion poster. A perfect segue into…
Long Read of the Week
“Jason Frames His Maniac Mansion Poster: A Gripping Account” is exactly what it sounds like. And the amount of intrigue to get the job done is, well, gripping. (Ish.)
Last Week’s Mojole Results
It’s the game that sweeps the nation! Can you beat Mojole, our fiendishly difficult daily puzzler? Only hardcore LucasArts aficionados need apply.
04 Nov: “#brutal” – … but not really Brutal like that.
05 Nov: “##riggs” – Eddie Riggs, though, what a badass.
06 Nov: “rts####” – The RTS elements of Brutal? Not quite as badass.
07 Nov: “ozzy###” – Good to see Ozzy in the game.
08 Nov: “lemmy##” – Lemmy is there, too.
09 Nov: “##curry” – Tim Curry, too, for whatever reason.
10 Nov: “lita###” – Lita, right there.
And for the competitive amongst you, the Mojole forum thread has gone strong for more than two years. The two juggernauts to beat: Sushi and Huz.
