The Adventurer - Issue #1
It's the inaugural edition of The Adventurer! Every week we send an email full of news, media, and who-knows-what (we don't) -- make sure to share all the fun with your friends and loved ones!
The Editor Welcomes You
Since I took the reigns as CEO in March, one of the most frequent asks hitting my desk has been to expand into the exciting realm of ‘electronic mail newsletters’. After giving it deep consideration for two minutes, I’ve instructed my staff to put something together. I can’t promise that you’ll enjoy it; in fact, you may even come to resent it. But what it will do is give otherwise underworked employees something to do, and that’s what really matters. Enjoy The Adventurer.
Week In Review
The Secret of Monkey Island Showdown
We pitted several versions of The Secret of Monkey Island against each other in a series of Twitter polls. The VGA version came out victorious, easily edging out Mojo's EGA favorite. The CDTV edition got some votes in the first-round poll, too -- impressive, seeing as it was never released. Check the final results on Twitter.
Ron And Dave Talk Return to Monkey Island
These interviews are light on details about the actual game -- not surprising -- but plenty of information about the team and their design philosophies. Check out Adventure Gamers and The Verge for more. Oh, and there are screenshots!
Who knows, maybe Mojo has something in the works, too?
LucasArts Secret History
In anticipation of Return to Monkey Island, we have seen a renewed interest in our LucasArts Secret History articles. To relive these Monkey Island tomes, look no further:
Elsewhere in The News
How Mojo predicted Return to Monkey Island in 2002: Granted, it was through an April Fools joke, but it still counts! Read Jason's stirring retrospective and reminisce about a joke that some believed was fact for many years.
Jared goes public: Jared Emerson-Johnson, the man behind most of Telltale's soundtracks (and a music producer on Return to Monkey Island), was interviewed by WSHU public radio. Mojo reports.
Dave Grossman infuriates eBay: By tearing up The Secret of Monkey Island posters, presumably while cackling, just to produce this.
Indiana Jones 5 is still happening: They managed to keep Ford away from airplanes long enough to finish the film, and, according to Jason, Mads Mikkelsen enjoys what he has seen so far.
Edutainment!
Grog, Grog, Grog!
Mojo's resident mixologist, elTee, shares his recipe for grog:
2 oz Dark Rum
.75 oz Lime Juice
.5 oz Demerara Syrup
1 oz Water
Add all ingredients to a mug filled with ice, stir, and enjoy.
Multimedia
This week's video pick is "The World of Brütal Legend," a montage of concept art and game clips from Brütal Legend. Find more videos on our YouTube Channel, or just visit Thrik's excellent fan site, Brütal!
Music! If you’re anything like Jason -- and let’s be honest, you are not -- you love Maniac Mansion. Why not check out this set of fan music from the game? And then read Jason’s article about the NES soundtrack.
Last Week’s Mojole Solutions
It’s the game that’s sweeping the nation, Mojole! Here are last week’s solutions:
08 Mar: “forum” -- Have you visited the Mojo Forums lately?
09 Mar: “dozer” -- Dozer was the name of Mojo’s web server in the early 2000s. It was particularly famous for its downtime.
10 Mar: “cygna” -- I believe this is related to SCUMM in one way or another. Who knows, I just added it because Zaarin told me to.
11 Mar: “phatt” -- Huz got really annoyed when I forgot to add this one to the dictionary.
12 Mar: “imuse” -- Jake threw a tantrum when I forgot to add this to the dictionary. (Also, iMuse is awesome!)
13 Mar: “randy” -- Breen? Or Sluganski? Two legends of their time.
14 Mar: “jaker” -- OK, so Jake’s IRC handle was jake|r, but as we don’t have a pipe character, this will have to do.
