The Adventurer - Issue #16
It’s The Adventurer: Every week, we send an email full of news, media, and who-knows-what (we don’t) – make sure to share all the fun with your friends and loved ones!
The Editor Welcomes You
I’ve written this week’s editorial a couple of days early, as given the current record temperatures in the UK I’m not sure I’ll make it to the usual publication date.
With a gorgeous Return to Monkey Island clip released this week, I’ve become motivated to push through to the end of my Monkey Island 2 replay, squinting through the waterfall of sweat pouring down from my forehead. If only I could use a monkey wrench to put a stop to it.
When the bone dance scene unfolded, I wasn’t sure if some parts were perhaps enhanced by my hyperthermic delirium. Similar to when our mixologist plays after enjoying one of his peyote-infused drinks, I suppose.
In any case, the game holds up beautifully, and the Special Edition treatment is largely well-executed. Just some bizarre choices here and there, like Jojo the monkey no longer looking like a wrench, making one of the game’s most notorious puzzles even worse.
#MonkeyIslandMondayFriday
Your soul must quite literally be dead if you didn't squeal from Dave Grossman's #MonkeyIslandMonday tweet:
After shaking off the face-slap of nostalgia -- the walk down the hill! -- there is a lot to unpack from a ten-second teaser...
A lot of speculations about the music. Are there notes of the original's map music in there? I'm pretty sure I'm hearing hints of the initial meeting with the Lookout. Consensus, though: Sounds great.
Zoom in on the poster, and the confirmation is in: Carla is the new governor of Mêlée.
The meme-able crate-carrying ghost is seemingly taking a break standing next to a sign of some sort.
The SCUMM Bar has splurged on a new sign, one that is letting the inner conspiracy theorist inside of us go a little wild...
Finally, the dock behind the SCUMM Bar: Is it an artistic interpretation of the shorter one in The Secret of Monkey Island? Or is the new Mêlée government opening its wallet? Or... was Escape from Monkey Island truly and wholly made canon?
Week in Review
Sam & Max-actor Chuck Kourouklis chatted with samandmax.co.uk, and we got the scoop (a month later) on some more Sam & Max funsies.
From the Jason corner: Some Willow stuff. Yes, apparently, we're still covering Willow.
Deep from the annals of the internet comes a canceled Totally Games game.
And if you want some really, really dubious Monkey Island clothing, well... Here you go.
Grog! Grog! Grog!
elTee, Mojo’s resident mixologist, once again raids his liquor cabinet fridge. This time: Tropical Mermaid Punch.

Summer Vacation
It's summer and Thrik has generously granted The Adventurer staff some time off (no pay, of course). Will somebody else pick up the slack for the next couple of weeks? Who knows! But do know that Mojo hasn't dropped the ball (yet again) and still loves you!
