The Adventurer - Issue #18
It’s The Adventurer: Every week, we send an email full of news, media, and who-knows-what (we don’t) – make sure to share all the fun with your friends and loved ones!
The Editor Welcomes You
We’re clearly moving closer to a Return to Monkey Island release, with ‘Monkey Island Mondays’ now a regular fixture where substantial new material is revealed, such as this week’s conversation between Guybrush and fan favourite Wally. I don’t know about you, but I’m just loving the animation — so much movement.
My favourite footage remains the LeChuck voice reveal, with the rain pouring and the ship rumbling in the wind. Replaying the older games, it’s now striking how still a lot of the scenes are. So much so that my fancy pants OLED TV sometimes detects the scene as a static picture and starts to dim the image.
On the forums, as usual fans are going increasingly insane. This last few days alone has seen passionate debate about the precise topology of Mêlée Island town (specifically the alley next to the church (another time, another space)), whether Bob’s peg leg is meant to be on the right or the left, and is the Stan music added to the VGA CD release of The Secret of Monkey Island good actually?
I have a few days off work now, so I’m looking forward to finally polishing off my Monkey Island 2 replay, which is becoming less ‘Ramping up for Return’ and more ‘How the hell did I work this out as an internet-deprived child?’.
#MonkeyIslandMondayFriday
There wasn't a lot of Return to Monkey Island news this week, but the news still was a lot. Starting with the new #MonkeyIslandMonday video, as announced by Dave...
A few opinions appear in my news post, but worth reiterating: That dialogue is pure, old-school Monkey Island. Chef's kisses all around.
Meanwhile, there were all sorts of confusion about what gamescom's "world premiere" of ReMI meant. If we were the betting kind -- and in this instance, we are -- odds are we'll see a new trailer and plausibly a release date. The event takes place on August 23 at 8 pm CEST/2 pm ET/11 am PT, and Mojo will live-tweet it.
Speaking of release dates -- some clever Redditors dove into the Devolver source code and found a "date" field suggesting ReMI releases on September 1st. We took it upon ourselves to debunk the rumor -- successfully, alas -- and if we were the betting type (which we again are), you'll be able to get your grubby hands on the game on Talk Like a Pirate Day: September 19th.
PC Gamer is still around, and their print (and digital) issue features ReMI on the cover this month (the October issue, go figure). I sprung for the $4 to read it, and it's... fine. Fine, but no real news other than a few screenshots you can find on our forums.
The cover, though, is magnificent, and as luck will have it, you can get a clean version of it.
Grog! Grog! Grog!

Look, this is a simple one: Drink water. Hydration is important. It helps you stay in shape, it regulates your metabolism, it's good for your circulation... There are no downsides to it. Water. Good stuff. Drink it.
