Jason Asks About Loom, Then He Answers
Just when you think no stone has been left unturned, Jason finds a new one to promptly flip around. This time he documents it all in a new article: The Untidy Legacy of Loom “Talkie”.
For those not familiar with what could arguably be considered LucasArts’ first talkie, it’s… Well, Loom is a bit different from what you might expect. From a technical perspective, the voice-over work is presented in Red Book format, meaning the dialogue is actual CD-audio tracks. If you’ve tossed The Secret of Monkey Island VGA CD in a player and skipped the first track, you’ll have an idea what that means. (In case you haven’t, it gives you the full soundtrack.)
Perhaps more controversial, Loom’s dialogue was fully rewritten to fit the Red Book format, which could hold at most seventy-four minutes of Red Book audio.
