Issue #68: Double Dipping into Psychonauts
Enjoy exclusive MP3s, videos, interviews, and MORE as Psychonauts turns twenty (and Mojo stares down the barrel knowing we’re almost thirty).
Yes, Psychonauts turns twenty, and what better excuse for us to link some old content in the name of nostalgia? Hey, it makes my job easier, or so I thought until it occurred to me that I actually had to find those old articles. It’s the type of service you can expect from your friends and family from Mojo.
Anyway, twenty years on – why not boot up the game tonight? Or, play the ever-so-slightly-superior sequel. Or both. Either way, make sure to enjoy yet another issue of The Adventurer first.
Yours,
Remi
Double Fine Throws a Psychonauts 20th Anniversary Bash
Yes, Psychonauts turned twenty, which serves as a reminder of how great the game is and that we all can complete our AARP membership forms. Seriously.
That aside, we might not have gotten a much-desired special edition or anything, but Double Fine is throwing out some nice stuff in honor of the anniversary. A new version of the PsychOdyssey box set, for example. Not a numbered Steelbook this time, but all the other cool stuff is in there: An 80-page making-of booklet; 13 hours of bonus content. Pretty sweet. Pick it up for $65.
Got more money to spend? Scott Campbell has put up a bunch of anniversary-related items in his shop. Coolest of all is probably the “family portrait…”
.… which will run you $75. Not bad for a 14x18 print. Run and buy.
If LEGO is more your thing, Double Fine is showcasing some anniversary-themed bricks over on their website. You can even vote to make one of the creations an official LEGO product. (Or put into consideration to become an official product, at least.)
Make sure to follow Double Fine over on Bluesky for more.
And to reminisce Mojo style: Remember when it became clear that Psychonauts wouldn’t be cancelled (despite our worst fears), and Majesco probably would pick up publishing rights? That news landed on Mojo courtesy of none other than our founder, James “Spaff” Spafford – now Double Fine’s Director of Marketing and Communications. Fancy, fancy, fancy!
And, even further back in time, here’s an original Microsoft Xbox trailer. (Remember how it was to be a console exclusive?)
Vintage Psychonauts Mojo Content
Cancel your plans for the weekend and, instead, read Mojo’s Psychonauts content from way back when.
Bizarrely enough, Mojo did not post a news update about Psychonauts’ announcement. (Don’t look at me, I didn’t have an updater account at that point.) The glorious SCUMM Bar, meanwhile, did not disappoint, and downright scooped Mojo.

“Soundtrack” of the Week
As there are a million (give or take) official Psychonauts soundtracks available for streaming and purchase, we’ll leave you to find those. Instead, we give you three early MP3s from 2003, courtesy of the aforementioned Peter McConnell interview: “Asylum Exterior,” “Campground at Night,” and “Milkman Conspiracy.”
El Poll Diablo
Last week, only 14% of you fessed up to having played Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual. 32% of us wish we could have, while 27% had not played it and apparently didn’t care to, either. Finally, 27% of you had not heard of the game. Ouch.
This week’s poll:
And no, there will be no “both” option. (This poll is courtesy of Jason, who angrily wants me to fix Mojo’s poll feature.)
